MYSTERY was a Tower magazine, carrying a mix of fiction and "fact" and in quarto rather than pulp format, published 1932-5. It had been previously titled ILLUSTRATED DETECTIVE MAGAZINE, and some issues carried this on the cover as a subhead. While in its first incarnation it had had its share of dripping knives and terror-stricken maidens, as MYSTERY its covers became more sedate, and in some cases indistinguishable from any woman's magazine of the time. It should not be confused with any of the other magazines with MYSTERY in their titles.
