Experimenter

THE EXPERIMENTER was the second name for the magazine originally begun in 1921 as PRACTICAL ELECTRICS. The first issue as THE EXPERIMENTER was published in 1924 and the last issue in 1926, at which point it was merged into SCIENCE AND INVENTION. Under both titles it was one of Hugo Gernsback's famous popular technical magazines. All of the issues ran full-color covers, and all show the gosh-wow futurism that permeated the Gernsback technical magazines of the mid and later 1920's. For this title there was an emphasis on things the reader could do, as well as the latest news and predictions of the technologies. Unlike the strictly electrical- or radio-oriented titles, THE EXPERIMENTER often featured chemical experiments on its covers; but many of the covers could just as easily have appeared on one of Gernsback's other magazines.
