Outer's Book

Today the title sounds weird to us, but it probably seemed perfectly all right a hundred years ago. Anyway, it's clear what its intention was, and it had some nice covers; published by the Sportsman Publishing Co. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Worldcat gives its run as 1907-1917. In February 1910 it published the first general-audience "Paul Bunyan" story; it grew in the telling. A short history says OUTER'S BOOK was combined with RECREATION to become OUTER'S-RECREATION, which then became OUTDOOR RECREATION. This was then merged in the late 1920's with OUTDOOR LIFE, and after a combined name became just OUTDOOR LIFE.
