Life 1920-05-27

Small child learns "The Tale of a Shirt" when an old military uniform shirt is put on the drying line and the ghostly figure of a man who once wore it appears to the kid ... as a ghost? a memory? It's 1920, and I wonder if this means the kid's father died in the war. But then how did the shirt come home? And who's wearing it now, if it needs to be washed? I am confused.
